Chair of the ESL
Born in New York City, Steve Bonfiglio’s family moved to California when he was very young. He graduated high school in La Habra and then received an Associated Arts degree from Fullerton College where his emphasis was on ocean science. Later, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Master of Science degree in Education (TESOL) from California State University, Fullerton.
Mr. Bonfiglio has taught both ESL for the last 30 years and science for the last decade. “My classes often incorporate a healthy dose of humor as well as plenty of out-of-the-book discussions and projects. But having high expectations for my students, I’m also known as a tough grader and a no-nonsense teacher when it comes to attendance and assignment deadlines.”
Because he lived in Japan and Italy for a number of years, his understanding of other cultures and cross-cultural skills are higher than the average person which is of great benefit in all classrooms in helping to integrate the international students into the mainstream.
“My wife is from Sardinia where we first met and we have a daughter, Jem, who attended school here for 10 years. At Eldorado Emerson, we teach students how to think, not what to think.”
